Straw Turned into "Green Gold": Handan Green Methanol Project by WINDEY Sets a Benchmark
Recently, WINDEY's 180,000t/year Handan Green Methanol Project made its debut at the Straw Comprehensive Utilization Exhibition sponsored by the Hebei Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. The intelligent collection-transportation-storage system, high-efficiency gasification devices, and methanol synthesis equipment were displayed at the exhibition site, which drew widespread attention.
As a key green energy project in Hebei Province, WINDEY's Handan Green Methanol Project has unprecedentedly established a dual-cycle development mode “Energy +Agriculture”. It not only resolves the problem of straw burning pollution from the source while relying on the “Enterprises + Cooperatives + Farmers” straw collection and storage network, but innovates in the entire industrial chain and develops the “Straw Collection & Storage - Pretreatment - Biomass Gasification - Methanol Refining and Synthesis” mode. By shattering key technical bottlenecks in straw removal from fields, collection & storage, and briquetting, the project has truly opened up a path of transformation from agricultural waste to high-value-added energy products.
Sun Chenguang, deputy head of the Hebei Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, stated that the straw full-value utilization system in the project will significantly improve the efficiency of straw energy utilization, helping Hebei build a "Zero-waste Agriculture" demonstration province.
In view of Handan's agricultural realities, Chen Tao, deputy director-general of the Handan Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, added that upon the completion of the supporting straw collection and storage centers, the project will have an annual straw consumption capacity of 500,000 tons, equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 420,000 tons. “This is not only an ecological project but also a people-enriching project, and it is a vivid practice of the value transformation from ‘Lucid Waters and Lush Mountains’ to ‘Gold and Silver Mountains’.”
Phase I of the project is expected to come into production in 2027, and then a green industrial cluster, which centers on straw resource utilization and closely links agricultural quality improvement & efficiency enhancement, green energy transformation, and ecological protection, will rise at a fast rate in the land of Hebei Province, contributing a down-to-earth “WINDEY Solution” to the comprehensive utilization of agricultural waste nationwide.
